Chairman
Alan Smith

Born in 1946 in Leicester, Alan has spent most of his career working in retailing. Following a Business Studies Degree at Leeds Polytecnic, Alan rose through the ranks of Joshua Tetley, before being appointed Managing Director of Victoria Wine. He then joined the Kingfisher Retail Group, first as MD of Superdrug, then B&Q, before moving to the role of Chief Executive of Boddingtons, Evans Halshaw, Punch Taverns and Somerfield Food Stores. His final executive role was as Chairman and Chief Executive of Robert Dyas. Alan is Chairman of ScS Group plc and Displayplan Ltd and a Non Executive Director of  NAAFI.

Jim Glover

Jim has a diverse background of executive and non-executive roles in retail, leisure and service organisations both in the UK and overseas. Such roles included MD of Benskins Ltd (an Allied Domecq company); MD of Kingfisher Asia Ltd, MD and later Chairman of Superdrug, CEO Kingfisher General Merchandise Sector (all within the Kingfisher Group); CEO of Patientline and his last executive role as CEO of NAAFI. Previous non-executive roles have included Treasurer and then Chairman of Council, University of Birmingham, and Chairman of the Royal Mencap Society. In addition to RAFCTE, Jim's current roles are Chairman of Andrews & Partners (an estate agency owned by charities), Chairman of Surrey Research Park and Chair of Council, University of Surrey.

Non-Executive Director
Colin Basnett

Mr Colin Basnett served in the Royal Air Force from 1979 - 2012, and is currently the Defence and Political Advisor (Air) for MBDA. Initially trained as an Assistant Air Traffic Controller, he enjoyed three tours as an airman, including one in Hong Kong, before being selected for commissioned aircrew service. His career then saw him undertake a tour as an instructor navigator for the Tornado GR1, followed by an exchange tour in the United States Air Force, before returning to the UK to attend the Joint Service Command and Staff College. Having converted onto the Tornado GR4, Colin commanded No 14 Sqn, and, after promotion to Group Captain, assumed command of RAF Marham. Colin undertook his eighth operational tour as Director of the Combined Air and Space Operations Centre, Al Udeid, Qatar. His final years in the RAF saw him return to the MOD as the Head of Air Resources and Plans followed by the Head of the Capability Equipment Plan.

Andy Armstrong

Andy has a strong commercial background in Media, FMCG and other consumer industries. After leaving Strathclyde University, he joined SmithKline Beecham (now GSK) as a graduate trainee, gaining experience in multiple industries and ending up as the Marketing Director for its consumer soft drinks division. He then moved to Sony and progressed through to become Managing Director Northern Europe for Sony Pictures' Home Entertainment division. Andy, whose father was Air Training Corps (ATC) Corps Chaplain, has a keen interest in aviation. In his youth he joined the Combined Cadet Force and he learned to fly following the award of a Cadet Flying Scholarship. He was also a member of the University Air Squadron. He took up his role as Chief Executive at RAF Charitable Trust Enterprises in July 2014 and Chief Executive of Scampton Airshow Limited when the company was formed in June 2016.


 


Executive Director - Director Airshow
Mr Paul Sall

Paul served in the Royal Air Force from 1984-2010. The 26 years in the Service included nearly 5000 flying hours as a flight engineer on Hercules and Sentry aircraft and also two seasons on the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight Lancaster. With flying tours interspersed with ground tours at MoD, his last RAF tour of duty was as part of the Defence Attaché's staff in New Delhi, India - following which he retired, early, from the RAF to take up the post as the Director of the RAF Waddington International Air Show. With experience of event and airshow management at the North Ireland International Air Show at Portrush and then as the programme manager for the National Armed Forces Day 2016 at Cleethorpes, Paul became a Director of Scampton Airshow Limited when the company was formed in June 2016.

Company Secretary
Chris Murray

Chris Murray OBE, served in the Royal Air Force for 35 years, retiring in 2008 as a Group Captain. Chris filled a range of appointments in the field of accounting and personnel administration during postings in the UK, Germany, as well as operational tours in Sierra Leone and the Middle East. He was awarded the Order of the British Empire in 2001. Chris joined RAFCTE in 2008 as Company Secretary and Deputy Director Ground Operations. He joined the executive team and Board in 2009. He became a Director of Scampton Airshow Limited when the company was formed in June 2016.

Steve Gunyon

Steve joined the team at RAFCTE in 2013. Having spent the last 20 years working in financial and commercial roles for a range of aerospace businesses designing, making and supporting aircraft systems and assemblies for Civil and Military aircraft it's really great to finally get airside. In a way it's almost taken him full circle, because Steve's first job in industry after qualifying as a Chartered Accountant was for a business that included Air Europe, so from the start of his career aircraft have always been part of the buzz. In between Steve squeezed in a few years with consumer focused businesses, with some well-known brands, but nothing that quite has the same "wow" factor as an Airshow! Steve's team looks after Finance, IT and Comms and was appointed a Director of Scampton Airshow Limited when the company was formed in June 2016.
