BBMF Lancaster

The Lancaster is one of the most iconic British aircraft and one that shares a unique and important relationship with RAF Scampton. During May 1943, No. 617 Squadron took to the skies out of Scampton in 19 Lancasters with the aim of destroying German dams along the Eder, Mohne and Rohr rivers.

The attack was audacious in both its planning and through the use of new technology, including the ubiquitous 'bouncing bomb', examples of which can be seen in the Scampton Heritage Centre over the airshow weekend.
