Grant helps students soar

Published: 23 Oct 2017

Funding from the RAF Charitable Trust will support RAF Cosford Wrekin Gliding Club to provide 15 gliding bursaries for the 2017/18 gliding season.

Personnel from phase two training courses up to the rank of corporal are eligible to benefit from the bursary which is designed to inspire airmanship whilst also encouraging team work and physical fitness.

The grant, totalling £3037 will give students easy access to the sport of gliding, covering the cost of a full year's membership, a reference book, ten flights in various gliding aircraft and a certificate of achievement upon completion.
Flight Lieutenant, Alastair Cooper said: "Last year, eight bursaries were awarded so it's fantastic to gain the funding to almost double the amount for this coming season and we're grateful for the Trust's support to enable this."

"The scheme is a great way to introduce new entrants to the Service or those in junior ranks at RAF Cosford into becoming more airminded, whilst also developing personal skills such as confidence, team work and initiative. We look forward to the 2017/18 season and fostering new gliding talent."

Winners of the bursary are:
AC Michael Martin
SAC Corbin Moran
SAC Samuel West
SAC Christopher Cameron
SAC Dylan Brotherton
SAC Peter Estrella
AC Adam Carter
AC Thomas Forber-Wilcock
LAC Corran Pearce
AC Alexander Swain
