French Flair at Scampton Airshow!
Published: 09 Sep 2017
Scampton is the only UK venue this year for the French Air Force's Alpha Jet solo display with two pilots taking turns behind the controls over the weekend. The pilots are instructors from EIV 03.004 Limousin based at Tours in Central France where fast-jet front pilots are trained before moving on to Mirage and Rafale. Today's pilot was Captain Jean-Phillipe Tanguy.
The Alpha Jet was designed in the 1970s under a joint French-German programme between Dassault, Breguet and Dornier for a new lead-in fast jet trainer for the French and German air forces. It entered service in 1978 and equips the French Air Force's Patrouille de France aerobatic team.
